Ilir Beqja was not arrested as a former MP, but as a former director of EU funds and former minister of PPPs...
For about 2 years in detention and with decisions from all levels of the judiciary not to release him, former minister Ilir Beqja has brought into play two former ministers of justice and the current minister, in the hope that they will force the Special Court to release him from prison.
On April 24, 2026, Ilir Beqja, through a letter from the Durrës detention center where he is being held in isolation, requested assistance from Fatmir Xhafaj as Chairman of the Anti-SPAK Committee, Ulsi Manja as Chairman of the Laws Committee, and Toni Gogu as Minister of Justice.
After having used all means and means, the activation of party colleagues is the last "card" that Ilir Beqja is using, as the only hope to get out of prison, although he knows that justice has repeatedly ruled to investigate and sentence him to prison.
In his letter, Ilir Beqja used another trick: to present his case as if he were a political prisoner, signing the letter as a "former MP", when there is no accusation of criminal offenses during his mandates as MP.
He has been reported, accused, investigated, prosecuted and arrested for corruption, theft, abuse of office and concealment of assets, during his time as Director of the European Union Funds Agency and for concessions when he was Minister of Health.
In the letter addressed to Xhafaj, Gog and Manjës to intervene and influence the justice system, Ilir Beqja accuses SPAK and the Special Court of violating the Constitution, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the European Convention on Human Rights. But the letter does not say anything about the charges for the criminal offenses for which he was arrested at the request of SPAK.
Faced with rejection by courts of all levels, which have confirmed the charges and investigative evidence with which SPAK arrested him, Ilir Beqja hopes to release his party and government comrades, by putting pressure on justice.
This move by Beqja comes after Fatmir Xhafaj, as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the alleged re-reform of the new justice system, has attempted several times to control the activities of SPAK, but former director Altin Dumani and current director Klodian Braho have not even accepted him into office.
Ilir Beqja should continue to file complaints for violations of the Criminal Procedure Code, but before the Special Court, the High Prosecutorial Council and the High Inspectorate of Justice, not to his former party and government colleagues, because they have no right to instruct the justice bodies. But next time, wherever he complains, he should not sign the complaints as a "former MP", because he was not arrested as such, but as a former Director of European Union Funds and as a former Minister of Health Concessions. /Pamphlet
