Illegal constructions in Theth, Karamuço: Institutions were in lethargic

Security expert, Ervin Karamuço, has commented on the recent interventions of the State Police in cases of unauthorized construction, emphasizing that what happened in Theth does not constitute a public order disorder, but a manageable and controlled situation.

According to him, this is part of a careful and selective process, which aims to stop the spread of illegal occupations and constructions, especially at the peak of the tourist season. Karamuço underlined that the institutions have left behind a period of lethargy, tolerating unauthorized constructions in areas of high natural and tourist importance.

"I cannot call it a public order disturbance. The interventions were made in a controlled manner, so as not to affect a wider community, which could rise up and have a stronger clash with the State Police. What happened in Theth was in miniature and manageable by the police forces. The police had it easier, but doing it in other and larger cities and on a more massive scale will normally be a problem and not even the prime minister wants this at the height of the tourist season.

That is why this is being seen step by step and in a more selective way. But, it is something that is ongoing, it is not a campaign and normally there will be more severe penalties for those who have built without permission. So there is a great reversal from that lethargic sleep of the institutions that must be said to have slept and that in a year or so allowed hundreds of buildings to be built without permission in an area as beautiful as Thethi, imagine in other countries. There is a very great greed for the occupation of territories and public spaces and this is currently being curbed",  said Karamuço on the "Real Story" show on ABC News.
