The Democratic Party has reacted sharply to the statements of the European Union Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos, who stated that the Albanian government and Prime Minister Edi Rama had ensured that the projects planned in protected areas are in line with European rules and standards.
In an official statement, the DP states that the European Commissioner's position is based on incorrect information provided by the Albanian government and does not reflect the real situation in the country.
" Regarding the statement of the Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Ms. Marta Kos, about the serious crisis that our country is going through, the Democratic Party expresses concern and emphasizes that it is based on false information presented by her friend Edi, and not on the existing reality in the country ," the blue headquarters' response states.
Democrats assess that Kos's statement does not help resolve the political and social situation that, according to them, Albania is experiencing, but rather serves the interests of the government.
" That statement ignores the serious crisis that has gripped Albania and serves Edi Rama and not the solution to the crisis, on the contrary, it exacerbates and deepens it even more ," the statement continues.
The Democratic Party also expresses support for the citizen protests that are taking place against projects in protected areas and for the demands raised by the protesters.
" The Democratic Party fully supports the five just demands of the protesters as conditions for a peaceful resolution of the crisis ," the DP emphasizes.
The reaction comes at a time when the debate over interventions in protected areas and tourism development projects has become one of the most discussed topics in relations between the opposition, the government, and European institutions.
