The US Charge d'Affaires recalled the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the Albanian sacrifices for freedom and the strategic partnership between the two countries

The United States Chargé d'Affaires in Albania, Nancy VanHorn, delivered a powerful speech during the official reception for the July 4th celebrations, which this year also marks the 250th anniversary of US Independence.

In the presence of high-ranking state representatives, ambassadors, public figures, and numerous guests, VanHorn described this anniversary as a historic moment not only for Americans, but also for all peoples who believe in freedom, democracy, and human dignity.

On July 4, 1776, a group of visionary Americans declared to the world that all men are created equal, with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As President Trump has said: ‘To this day, those words give life to our Republic, stir the hearts of every citizen, and inspire our way of life,’ ” VanHorn said.

She emphasized that these principles have served for nearly two and a half centuries as a deterrent to tyranny and oppression, turning America into a symbol of hope for people around the world.

Focusing on Albania, VanHorn praised the country's journey from communist isolation to democracy and Western alliance, describing it as a success story built on courage and sacrifice.

Albanians know that desire well. Your nation’s journey from oppression and isolation to democracy and Western alliance is one of the great success stories of our time. You are building a society and institutions that promote the principles of freedom and justice for all ,” she said.

In her speech, the American diplomat also remembered Loni Adami and Kol Kuqali, two Albanians who worked at the American Embassy and lost their lives during the communist regime after refusing to testify falsely against the US.

Recently, I met with the descendants of these brave men, who lost their lives at the hands of a brutal regime because they refused to testify falsely against the United States. Their families were persecuted for decades, but their belief that Albania would one day experience freedom was unwavering ,” said VanHorn.

She emphasized that the partnership between Albania and the US is stronger today than ever, thanks to cooperation in the military, economic and defense of democratic values.

Our bond is stronger today than ever before, thanks to all of you. Thank you for your partnership, your legendary Albanian hospitality, and your commitment to the values we share !” said VanHorn.

In closing, she emphasized that the US and Albania will continue to work together to protect freedom and strengthen the strategic partnership.

" We will continue to work together to preserve a world where freedom reigns, guided by the principles of peace through strength and partnerships built on mutual respect and shared interests ," she declared.

VanHorn concluded his speech with a symbolic toast to the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States and to Albanian-American friendship: “Happy 250 years of freedom! Happy 250th birthday, America! Happy Fourth of July!”
