Rama compares the protesters to "flamingos" and invites them to distance themselves from those who, according to him, are using the cause for other interests.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the protests against the project in Zvërnec, harshly criticizing the protesters' positions and the way the public debate on this issue is taking place.
In a post published on social media, Rama expresses his understanding for the citizens who have joined the protest due to environmental concerns, but accuses them of refusing to face facts and arguments.
"The problem is not the flamingos. Their intentions are good. The problem is that the flamingos refuse to listen to the facts, discuss solutions and coordinate forces with institutions and serious sources of expertise, to protect everything necessary by implementing the right project," Rama writes.
Referring to the symbolism of the flamingos used in the protest, the prime minister claims that participants are being influenced by individuals who feed on disinformation and conspiracy theories.
"Thus they become the tools of the crows and ravens that have surrounded them," he says.
Rama also raises the question of why protesters are not distancing themselves from those who, according to him, are exploiting the environmental cause for political purposes.
"What I fail to understand is why the flamingos don't want to be separated from the crows that feed on noise, slander, conspiracy theories, and the ravens that, through bullying and categorical rejection of every fact, seek to take Albania hostage?!", writes the prime minister.
Rama's reaction comes amid protests against the project in Zvërnec, where opponents of the investment express concerns about its impact on the protected area and the lagoon ecosystem.
"THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS," says a very old saying, and there is a reason why this expression has survived for centuries.
It does not devalue good intentions. On the contrary. Good intentions are the indispensable A of the entire alphabet of the ethics of public engagement. But the path of humanity teaches us that good intentions are by no means enough. On the contrary.
History is full of developments that began with the noblest slogans and the most sincere emotions, but ended in intolerance, fanaticism or destruction, as a result of the rupture of the connection between perception and reality, imagination and facts, and concern and reason.
Therefore, if good intentions are not subject to the test of facts, if the passion for change is not guided by reason, and if strong convictions are not accompanied by the desire to listen, the distance between defending a principle, a goal, or a cause and their transformation into exclusionary dogma becomes very short. And just like that, the road to hell is not paved with bad intentions, but with good intentions that refuse to be measured by reality.
I have sincere sympathy for anyone who joined this protest out of alarm over nature in danger. Even this aesthetic form of demonstration, with the silhouettes of pink flamingos, delights me with the charm that would otherwise be lacking in a civic protest for nature that has quickly turned into a political demonstration impoverished in ideas, poor in arguments, degraded in vocabulary and ugly in its street or digital bullying of anyone who thinks differently.
But this beautiful photograph, in particular, brings me back to the proverb from the beginning and the “road to hell”.
Because the problem is not the flamingos. Their intention is good. The problem is that the flamingos refuse to listen to the facts, discuss solutions and coordinate forces with institutions and serious sources of expertise, to protect everything necessary by implementing the right project. I have listened to the flamingos and I understand them. I respect their concern without prejudice, precisely because it has always been mine. What I fail to understand is why the flamingos do not want to separate from the crows that feed on noise, slander, conspiracy theories and the ravens that, with bullying and categorical rejection of every fact, seek to take Albania hostage?!
Flamingos do not lose their beauty if they engage in a useful discussion about the future of the area and the path of Albania's development. While the crows and ravens remain simply who they are, since November 28, 1912, when they took on the role of the shadow that haunts Albania, but without a chance to pave a road to hell with the good intentions of the flamingos...", writes Rama.
Kryeminister, nuk kemi me besim te ajo qe thua, as ti e as institucionet, seriozitetin e te cilave e kemi provuar ne kurriz. Na keni genjyer e mashtruar aq shume sa tani edhe po te jeni duke te thene te verteten nuk ka me vlere, nuk ka me peshe, nuk e beson me kush. PD-ja neper sheshe ato pak here qe mezi i grumbullonte te vetet nuk eshte se thoshte te paverteta, por fjalet e humbasin vleren kur dalin nga goja e mashtruesve te sprovuar nder vite. Prandaj nuk i bashkohej kush. Ajo qe keni bere nder vite, zhvleresimi i fjales, i premtimeve dhe i institucioneve, ju ka sjelle ketu ku jeni sot. Flamingot nuk kane besim te askush nga ju qe keni deshmuar nder vite ne menyre konstante se e vetmja gje qe dini te beni mire eshte te genjeni, te mashtroni, te shfajesoheni.
Si ke goje e flet. Po te dalin gjithe lakrat ne shesh dhe prape ben si viktime. E ke lene kete vend ne meshire te fatit. Nje shtet i gjunjezuar, ku dhe pse ketu e di i madh e i vogel qe gjithe investimet ne kulla dhe hotele jane leke droge,ku gjithe keta oligarket e tu bejne vetem kete pune, asnje institucion nuk vepron nuk reagon. Te gjithe ne sherbim te klienteve te Shefit. Dhe ti prape del!!!! Paskemi qene popull i bute. Se te ishe diku tjeter do te merrnin zverra me kohe. Mashtrues ordiner, Po tani ka ardh koha te paguash, dhe do paguash shtrenjt.
Merreni dhe testojeni kete palaco per droge. Ky duhet te jete droguar tmerresisht qe kercenon e tallet me nje popull te tere. Mire me ne, por na del neper Europe e jep leksione ideologjike e politike. Verejeni me kujdes se si i levizin syte si kameleon e nuk i perqendrohen. I ka ikur stabiliteti mendor qekur nuk mbahet mend.
Akoma me genjeshtra, deri kur?!!! I nenvlereson shume njerezit, dhe te duket vetja si interesant , te duket i besueshem. Mashtrues i papare je, po tani te dolen petet.
