Many people took Ilir Proda's warning that there would be jail time for anyone who double-parks their car as a joke. But it seems that the Traffic Police have taken it seriously.
The Tirana Traffic Police Commissariat announces that two people have been placed under investigation for double parking. They are FB, 20 years old, and DD, 35 years old, after they obstructed the movement of cars by improperly parking their vehicles.
This is the first time that Article 293 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the offense of "obstructing and stopping road traffic", has been applied.
Tirana Traffic Police Announcement:
Controls against illegal parking that impede movement in the capital continue.
Also, intensive monitoring of road axes is being carried out to ascertain violations of road traffic rules, which endanger the lives of road users.
During this week:
45 vehicles blocked;
25 citizens arrested/proceeded for driving while intoxicated and/or without a driving license;
Criminal proceedings were initiated against citizens FB, 20 years old, and DD, 35 years old, for obstructing traffic with illegally parked vehicles. Both of their vehicles were towed away with a tow truck.
The Traffic Police appeals for awareness among drivers to strictly respect road traffic rules, avoid incorrect parking and show maximum caution while driving, so as not to become a source of danger for themselves and others.
Intensive checks will continue every day and on every road segment in Tirana, with a special focus on preventing behaviors that harm traffic safety and flow, as well as illegal parking that blocks roads or lanes.
