The Tirana Court has released from custody two brothers Agim and Florenc Domi, administrator and storekeeper of an environment where expired products were found in Vora. At the request of the prosecution, the two brothers will be investigated under the security measure of house arrest.
They have filed a claim in court that the found goods were not intended for sale, but for destruction.
The police operation codenamed "Food Safety", conducted by the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Sector at the DPSSh, in cooperation with Police Commissariat No. 7, discovered a warehouse in Vora where expired food product labels were falsified, which were then put back on the market.
During the search, 716 packages and dozens of kilograms of processed food products with an expiration date of January and February 2025 were seized as material evidence, and the expiration date had been falsified with the aim of re-entering the market for sale.
The investigation revealed that the entity, which was involved in import-export and trade of industrial and food products, was collecting expired products from various markets in Tirana, Durrës and Elbasan, falsifying their expiration dates and re-releasing them on the market, without tax documentation.
The procedural materials were passed to the Tirana General Jurisdiction Prosecutor's Office for further action on the criminal offenses of "Violation of industrial property rights", "Forgery of seals, stamps or forms", "Hiding income", "Non-payment of taxes and duties", "Illegal employment" and "Import, production, sale, storage of food dangerous to human health or life".
