Thousands of citizens marched towards Italy Square, where a few hours ago Edi Rama celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party. Amidst calls against the prime minister and the political class, the protesters sent the message that they are able to mobilize more people than the government.
Just a few hours after Edi Rama gathered socialists in "Italia" Square for the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party, the same square has been occupied by thousands of protesters.
After the march on "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard, the crowd headed towards the area where the SP activity took place, turning "Italia" Square into the main stop of the evening protest.
With national flags in their hands and chanting "Rama is out", "Revolution", "Albania is ours" and "The end has come for you", the protesters have openly challenged the prime minister, claiming that their mobilization is greater than that organized by the Socialist Party.
"No one brought us here by force," some of the protesters could be heard saying, while others chanted that the square was filled with citizens who had come of their own free will and not under political orders.
The presence of thousands of citizens in the same place where the SP activity was held a few hours ago has been seen by the participants as a direct message to Edi Rama. According to them, the civic revolt is gaining ground and is turning into a movement that challenges not only the government, but the entire political class.
The atmosphere in the square was accompanied by continuous cheers, as protesters turned on their phone lights and continued the march amid calls for political change and early elections.
Meanwhile, organizers have stated that the protests will continue in the coming days, insisting that mobilization is growing day by day. For many of the participants, the filling of Italy Square a few hours after the SP activity was a symbolic response to the demonstration of force organized by Edi Rama and the socialists.
