The international human rights organization, Amnesty International, has made a strong call for a global boycott of Israel, accusing Israeli authorities of a systematic campaign of "ethnic cleansing" and illegal annexation of the occupied West Bank.
The head of Amnesty International, Agnès Callamard, stated that violence against Palestinian communities and their forced displacement are not isolated actions of a few extremist settlers, but part of a planned project fully supported by the Israeli state.
"What we are seeing is deliberate, state-led annexation, in complete violation of international law, taking place before the eyes of the entire world. These abuses are not the result of a few 'bad apples.' Settler violence is a key component of a state-sanctioned campaign of ethnic cleansing, " Callamard said.
Over the past three and a half years, Israeli authorities have accelerated the forced displacement of Palestinian Bedouin and pastoralist communities in Area C of the West Bank, using settler violence, home demolitions and severe restrictions as tools to create conditions that force Palestinians to leave, according to a wide-ranging new report published by Amnesty International, which the organization considers a crime against humanity.
Amnesty is calling on member states of the international community to immediately halt any trade, investment or cooperation that contributes to the illegal occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing. The call includes targeted sanctions against senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli government spokespersons have dismissed Amnesty's report as biased and unfounded, considering it part of the organization's anti-Israel narrative.
