Two minor sisters, aged 16 and 12, have gone missing from a residential centre for minors in the L'Aquila area of Italy, raising concerns among authorities and their families. The case is being investigated by the Sulmona Prosecutor's Office, with a possible kidnapping being considered.
According to Italian media reports, the boyfriend of 16-year-old Alisya Di Giacinto testified to investigators that the girl's behavior had changed recently and that she seemed more withdrawn than usual.
"It was like there was something inside that she wanted to tell me, but couldn't express," he said, adding that the girls "were afraid of the dark."
So far, authorities have not officially confirmed any motive that may have led to their departure.
Investigators are analyzing several leads, including the possibility of a kidnapping, while at this stage of the investigation there is no evidence to indicate that the two sisters left of their own free will.
The search operation has entered its fifth day, involving specialized units and sniffer dogs trained to search for missing persons. An earlier report of a possible sighting of the girls has not been confirmed by authorities.
According to preliminary investigation data, the two sisters are suspected of leaving the center where they were staying between 02:00 and 05:00 in the morning on June 7. They did not take with them their mobile phones or other personal items that could help in identifying or tracking them.
The girls' parents, who are divorced, have publicly appealed for help in finding them. Meanwhile, investigations continue under the direction of the Sulmona Prosecutor's Office and prosecutor Stefano Iafolla, who has registered a criminal proceeding for the offense of "kidnapping of minors."
