Thousands of citizens have been protesting in the streets of Tirana for 13 days, in one of the largest protests held in Albania in at least two decades, with the main demand being the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. But the protesters are expressing their revolt against the political class as a whole, also accusing the Democratic Party led by Sali Berisha of being sold out and serving Edi Rama.
Despite Berisha's public statements supporting the protest, analyst Shpend Gashi has published several messages, which, according to him, show that DP exponents are aiming to disrupt the protests. Perhaps the reason for this stance behind the scenes are the calls "Berisha in prison, Rama in prison", labeling the two leaders who keep the political scene under control as co-responsible for every abuse and misgovernance of the country.
Gashi, through social networks, states that he has received several messages on his phone where DP experts are attempting to bring in mercenaries to disrupt the protest and make it violent.
" I receive messages that DP exponents will bring in mercenaries to disrupt the protest, to promote violence! On the other hand, I receive messages that the government is pressuring the administration with an attendance list to participate in Rama's anti-government demonstration."
I am calling on those who think they can disrupt the establishment, I am telling them a few things, we have God and the State Police. Not that they love us, but they have their families. No matter what happens, you are checkmate. Today, for the first time in your political wars, you are facing some young people who know how to play it. See you at the protest. I invite you to pray to God that this will end, because your prayers will not be heard, because God is with us! ", he said.
