Thousands of citizens continued the protests in Tirana on Friday, which have entered their 13th day, demanding the resignation of Edi Rama as Prime Minister.
The protests begin around 6:00 PM with a symbolic gathering at Skanderbeg Square and then march towards the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard, stopping at the Prime Minister's Office.
The protests have been supported by opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Albania, although a significant portion of the protesters are chanting "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison."
Regarding what is happening with the protests and how far they can achieve their goal, Andi Mustafaj, member of the DP National Council, has reacted.
For the "ÇdoKënd" studio on A2Cnn, Mustafaj emphasized that from the protests so far, we are dealing with a symbolic victory.
"The greatest act for the nation is to do something for yourself. In the case of the protest, we have people with different political beliefs and each one has come out there for themselves. And this is a victory for our country, it is a first step. People have stood up for themselves, it is a symbolic victory," Mustafaj said.
According to him, we are at a moment where the masses have not shaped their political ideology in an actionable way.
"We don't have a political project identified. As a tool, the protest increases pressure on the government to make changes."
"But, currently the pressure is great symbolically, but not in terms of the obligation that Edi Rama's regime has," Mustafaj added.
According to him, the protesters must find the key to turning it into a political victory.
"Even a democratic regime changes when it is forced to change. That is, when pressure forces it either through the blockade of economic life that we know through strikes that unions make in the blockade of economic activity or through pressure through the blockade of state activity."
So, if the state is prevented from exercising its duty, then it is forced to change. At the moment we are speaking, neither of these two has been realized yet. So, we are still in the realm of symbolism.
"Neither economic life is blocked nor the exercise of state duties. And this is perhaps the most important key for the protesters to find a way to translate this symbolic victory into a political victory, which will produce longer-term consequences," Mustafaj said.
