A US official told CNN that the US military did not intercept any of the Iranian ballistic missiles launched towards Israel overnight, contradicting a previous statement by an Israeli military official.
A US official has denied claims that the United States intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles launched towards Israel overnight.
Speaking to CNN, the official said the US military did not shoot down any of the recently launched Iranian missiles. This stance marks a marked shift from previous clashes between Israel and Iran, when the US deployed a significant number of interceptors to help neutralize Iranian missiles aimed at Israeli territory.
The US statement contradicts a claim made earlier on Monday by an Israeli military official.
According to the latter, the US had supported Israel's air defense operations, including the interception of several Iranian missiles.
However, the US official stressed that there was close coordination between the Israeli military and US Central Command (CENTCOM) overnight. According to him, the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, held two conversations with the commander of CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper.
