Prime Minister Edi Rama has continued his attacks on bloggers and activists. During a speech at the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party in Fier, he used ironic tones and direct accusations against those who, according to him, are spreading false information to gain attention on social networks.
Rama said that the government will always face problems as long as, according to him, there are people who speak in the name of environmental protection, but act contrary to what they claim.
"I'm not saying that we don't have problems, that we will always have problems, as long as we have people who, in the name of the environment and birds, go to Zvërnec and park all their cars right on the sand and protest for the flamingos," the prime minister declared.
Further, the head of government ridiculed popular social media figures, saying that they build an artificial reality for their followers, while spreading messages that do not match the facts.
"We will have problems as long as people appear on Instagram with all kinds of creams, with all kinds of clothes, backgrounds. I am in Tuscany, I greet you from Paris, oh how beautiful Vienna and behind it Mozart singing," said Rama amid laughter from those present.
He focused particularly on the debate that has accompanied the investments in Zvërnec and Sazan, claiming that some critics are relying on false information and unfounded theories.
In his speech, Rama also spoke about a phone conversation he had with a protester who considered himself a patriot. The Prime Minister said he had asked him to distance himself from false claims and to seek transparency through documents and facts.
"You guys, you shouldn't become patriotic and run away from the truth. If there is one thing that is patriotic, it is the truth. It is that when you talk about your country, when you stand up for your country, when you try to say the best you can about your country, you do it while keeping in mind that the dignity of your country is not violated," he said.
The Prime Minister also accused some public figures on social media of using sensitive issues to increase their online audience and influence.
"When you talk about your country, you should not say untrue things for the sake of likes and followers," Rama declared.
At the end of his speech, he also referred to the recent debates on tourism projects on the coast, ironizing the claims that, according to him, constantly shift the focus from one area to another and create confusion in public opinion.
