Nine people have been injured after a shooting incident near the training center that the England national team will use during the 2026 World Cup in Kansas City, Missouri.
According to local authorities, police were notified in the early hours of the morning of shots fired in the Troost Avenue area, about 10 minutes' drive from the training center and near the hotel where the English team will be staying during the tournament.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a large crowd dispersing. Initially, three injured women were transported to the hospital, while authorities later confirmed that a total of nine adults were taken to various medical facilities. All injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
So far, police have not announced any arrests, while investigations are ongoing. Law enforcement has increased patrols in the area to ensure public safety.
Just last week, the Kansas City police received a $17 million federal grant to strengthen security measures during the 2026 World Cup. The funds aim to increase human and technological capacity to meet the challenges of organizing the tournament.
The England national team, which has been in Palm Beach, Florida since last week, is expected to arrive in Kansas City on June 13. The city will serve as a training base not only for England, but also for Argentina and the Netherlands.
Local authorities predict that Kansas City will host around 650,000 visitors during the 2026 World Cup, a significant influx that is expected to put the region's security systems and infrastructure to the test.
