A senior Israeli official told Israeli television network Channel 12 today that Israel is halting attacks on Iran at the request of US President Donald Trump.
However, the official stressed that if Hezbollah's attacks on Israeli cities continue, Israel will attack the southern suburbs of Beirut, while declaring that attacks on southern Lebanon will continue in full force in the coming days.
Another Israeli official told Reuters that Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
The call occurred before Trump posted on Truth Social that Israel and Iran were seeking an immediate ceasefire, the official said.
Iranian military announces cessation of attacks on Israel
Earlier, the Iranian military announced that the first wave of attacks against Israel since the April ceasefire has ended, although it threatened to continue attacks if Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon.
Specifically, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces (Khattam al-Anbiya) announced the end of military operations against Israel. However, in the same statement, they warned that if the attacks continue, "including in southern Lebanon," Iran will respond "more strictly and forcefully than before."
