Journalist Lutfi Dervishi has described the citizens' protest on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, where thousands of people have been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama for 12 days, as an event that happens once every 50 years in terms of size, intensity and energy. Dervishi stressed that what makes this protest special is that the youth and the middle class have all poured into the square.
" It is an accumulation of dissatisfaction. So, it is not a parade, but it is an accumulation, an accumulation of dissatisfaction that is summarized in a slogan in Korça. Blessed is the drop that spilled the cup. And the drop that spilled the cup was Zvernec. People have come out for Zvernec, they are staying there for completely different reasons or for all other reasons. It is special because for almost the last five years, the main thing has been apathy, the youth has their minds in cafes, no one moves, nothing changes and it is special because the middle class has come out", Dervishi said on A2 CNN.
He added that this protest has also changed Albania's image in the world. According to him, most foreign countries support this movement.
"And what has been called a beautiful protest also for the image of Albania. That is, if Sweden is a country where the population is 80% in favor of Albania's membership in the EU, I have an idea that if a survey were to be conducted today in the countries of the European Union, we would have an increase in public support, because it has presented Albania in a very good light. It is very special because it is not a protest that is organized only in Tirana and, let's say, national and people with buses, with organization, but it took place over several days in several cities of Albania and moreover in many cities and capitals of European Union countries. So there is something that cannot be ignored", emphasized Dervishi
He said that what is happening so far is not simply a protest against the government and governance.
"If you analyze the slogans, it is a protest that is against the development model and the establishment and the elite. That is, they are looking for something different, perhaps starting with the media. So, they are looking for something different, because they see that this type of system has functioned like a Ferrari for a handful and like a chariot for the rest of the population. What makes them characteristic so far is that they have very good organization despite not seeming to be leaders ," he added.
