Real Madrid have officially announced the return of Jose Mourinho to the first team bench, confirming one of the most important moves of the summer transfer window in European football.
According to the Spanish club's announcement, Madrid's leaders have reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach, while to enable his departure from Benfica, a sum of 15 million euros has been paid for the termination of the existing contract.
Mourinho has signed a contract that will keep him at the helm of Real Madrid until June 30, 2029. He will lead the team for the next three seasons, with the objective of returning the club to the highest level of European football after two seasons without major trophies.
In an official statement, Real Madrid announced that the board of directors, headed by president Florentino Perez, has approved the appointment of the Portuguese coach until 2029.
Mourinho is expected to join the team on July 13, the date that coincides with the start of the pre-season training camp. The club's management hopes that his long experience and winning mentality will bring a new cycle of success to the Madrid giants.
