Manuel Neuer has made history by setting a new World Cup record. The legendary German goalkeeper made his 21st appearance in the competition after starting for Germany against Ivory Coast.
With this match, Neuer becomes the goalkeeper with the most appearances in World Cup history, leaving behind Frenchman Hugo Loris and setting a new record for goalkeepers in the most prestigious international football tournament.
For the 40-year-old, it was also his 126th appearance for Germany, placing him fifth on the list of players with the most appearances for the German national team.
In the historical ranking, Neuer is behind well-known names in German football such as Lukas Podolski with 130 appearances, Thomas Müller with 131, Miroslav Klose with 137 and Lothar Mateus, who holds the absolute record with 150 matches for the national team.
