Enough with Rama, enough with Berisha!

Enough with Rama, enough with Berisha!
The political caste is shaken

The protest message: Rama is not invincible, Berisha is not the alternative

The scenes of this evening in Tirana were unusual for Albania in the last 35 years. A boulevard filled from one end to the other, thousands of citizens in the square, a diaspora from all over Europe, and a revolt that was not controlled by any political party.

After the fall of the communist regime, the largest protests in Albania have almost always been organized by political parties. There have been revolts, there have been mass rallies, there have been civic protests like the one against chemical weapons or the student movement, but rarely has such a sustainable and uninterrupted civic mobilization been seen for 21 days in a row.

This is why today's protest constitutes a political moment that cannot be ignored.

Her first message goes to Edi Rama.

For weeks, the prime minister has tried to downplay the movement. He has spoken of a few thousand people, attacked the organizers, mocked the protesters, and accused social media of manipulation. But the images of the packed boulevard show that the discontent is real and that it could reach much larger proportions than the government thinks.

For the first time in many years, a prime minister is facing a citizen revolt that was not produced by his political opponent. This makes the protest much more difficult to manage and much more dangerous for the government.

But the second message is just as strong and is addressed to Sali Berisha.

For years, the opposition has organized dozens of protests. There have been marches, rallies, civil disobedience, and national rallies. However, none of them have managed to produce the energy and participation that was seen in the square today.

This shows that the problem for a large portion of citizens is not just the government. The problem is the entire political caste that has dominated Albania for more than three decades.

That's why the slogan that is heard more and more often is not just "Rama go away". It is "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison".

This is not simply a call against two politicians. It is a rejection of a political model that Albanians see as responsible for endless transition, mass emigration, corruption, and a lack of trust in institutions.

If until yesterday, politics thought that citizens were divided between Rama and Berisha, today's protest showed something else: a large part of them no longer want to choose between the two.

This is why the 21st protest was not just a protest against the government. It was a warning to the entire Albanian political class. / Pamphlet
