Details have emerged from the closed-door meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, where beyond discussions about the political situation and protests, one of Prime Minister Edi Rama's main concerns has been the government's influence on social networks.
Sources from the meeting indicate that Rama has asked MPs and ministers to increase their online activity and promote more government projects, investments and results.
According to him, despite the work done by institutions, government content is failing to capture the public's attention on social platforms.
" We produce a job and it doesn't get an algorithm ," Rama is reported to have said during the meeting, arguing that social networks favor conflict, controversy and negative news, while government projects pass without much interest.
His message to MPs was not to be satisfied with political activity on the ground, but to engage more strongly in the digital space, which the Prime Minister considers an important front in the political battle.
In this context, Rama has also ironized Socialist MP Erion Braçe, known for his frequent posts on issues on the ground.
" Erioni takes out the bins full of garbage, but he doesn't take out the clean bins ," the prime minister is reported to have said.
Braçe has not been left without an answer, arguing that his complaints are related to problems that continue to remain unresolved.
" I'm doing this because no solution has been found ," was the socialist MP's reply.
The discussion highlights the concern of the majority leaders about the influence that social networks are having in shaping public opinion, at a time when the government is facing protests and increased public debate. For Rama, it seems that the battle is not only taking place on the ground and in institutions, but increasingly in the algorithms of social networks.
