After about five hours of discussions, the meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group has concluded, where Prime Minister Edi Rama focused on the latest political developments, the protests and the debate created after the departure of MP Marjana Koçeku from the socialist group.
Without mentioning Koceku by name, Rama hinted that similar cases could occur in the future, stating that “many others will appear to us from the side, behind, and in front of us.” He emphasized that the Socialist Party should not be concerned about criticism or individual departures.
The head of government also rejected speculation about his possible resignation, saying that he has never had such a scenario in mind and that the messages he has received in this regard do not stand "neither in heaven nor on earth."
During his speech, Rama criticized the protests that have been taking place for days in Tirana and other cities, emphasizing that the majority should not follow the path of populism to be liked, but rather make decisions that it considers responsible for the country and the European integration process.
An important part of the speech was also dedicated to social networks and the influence of algorithms, which Rama said are creating a parallel reality where slander and untruths are spread as facts. According to him, online attacks and threats will not affect the positions of the government and the Socialist Party.
In conclusion, Rama reiterated that the main objective of the majority remains Albania's membership in the European Union, emphasizing that this is the path that, according to him, should not be deviated from by the political noise of the moment.
