US signals 'divorce' with Israel, Vance: We have different approaches
J.D. Vance

US Vice President JD Vance said Washington and Israel may have differences in how they intend to achieve their objectives against Iran. He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News, at the same time as Iran announced it would close the strategic Strait of Hormuz again.

"I don't know if there's any divergence of goals. Sometimes there's just a divergence in how those goals are achieved," Vance said.

He stressed that President Donald Trump has chosen to give diplomacy and negotiations with Tehran a chance, despite the fact that some elements within the Israeli government may prefer a different approach.

"I don't want to speak on behalf of the Israeli government. They have been a good partner in many ways, but the president of the United States has said that we will give negotiations a chance," he added.

Vance's comments come days after he publicly criticized several Israeli government positions during a press conference at the White House.

"Donald J. Trump is the only state leader in the world who is clearly on Israel's side at this moment. He is also the leader of the world's superpower," Vance declared, suggesting that Israel should exercise caution in relation to its main ally.

He also noted Israel's dependence on American military support and said some Israeli leaders need to consider the strategic reality facing the country.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with the Financial Times, President Trump stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would have to accept any deal the United States can reach with Iran through negotiations.
