Trump attacks Meloni again: Giorgia wants to be my friend to increase popularity

The American president continues his public clash with the Italian prime minister and accuses her of changing her stance towards the US for domestic political interests.

The controversy between Donald Trump and Giorgia Meloni is deepening, as the American president has published a new reaction on his social network Truth Social, where he has repeated the accusations against the Italian prime minister.

Trump claims that during the G7 summit in France, Meloni repeatedly insisted on taking a photo with him. According to the US president, the request was related to her attempt to improve her political standing in Italy, at a time when, according to him, support for her government is declining.

In his post, Trump criticized Meloni for her stances on several international issues against the United States. He cited Italy's opposition to the use of certain military infrastructure during operations against Iran, as well as the Italian prime minister's defense of Pope Leo after the US president's criticism.

According to Trump, the decisions taken by the Italian government have created difficulties for American interests and have damaged cooperation between the two countries.

The new statement comes after strong public exchanges between the two leaders in recent days, which have highlighted unprecedented tensions between one of Washington's traditional allies and the US administration.

Donald Trump's full post:

"Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has repeatedly asked me to take a photo during the G7 summit in France. She is doing poorly in Italy in terms of her popularity, perhaps because she turned her back on the United States of America, a country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons, but so did NATO, anyway!"

It didn't even allow us to use Italy's runways or airports, which was a major logistical obstacle, and this despite the fact that the US contributes hundreds of billions of dollars every year to defend Italy and other NATO allies.

"Now that the United States has defeated Iran militarily, it wants to be friends again to boost its popularity 'numbers.' No, thank you," President Trump wrote.
