Universidad de Chile coach and former Argentine Real Madrid player Fernando Gago has been rushed to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly after the press conference following his team's victory over O'Higgins.
According to reports, the 40-year-old began to feel uneasy and severe chest pains while communicating with the media. Initially, he tried to continue the conference by drinking water and remaining calm, but his condition gradually worsened.
After the conference ended, the club's medical staff and its collaborators intervened immediately, transporting the coach to a hospital center for specialized cardiological examinations.
Doctors decided to perform a surgical intervention to treat the problem, which, according to official sources, was successfully performed.
In an official statement, Universidad de Chile announced that Gago is in stable condition and is being monitored by the medical team. The club stressed that the coach will not be present in training sessions until the necessary tests and recovery process are completed.
" Our technical director is undergoing a series of cardiological tests and will not take part in today's training. His condition is good and remains under medical supervision ," the Chilean club said in a statement.
Meanwhile, fans and the football community have expressed their support for the former Argentine midfielder, wishing him a speedy recovery.
