The leader of the Democratic Party says that supporters from Albania and the diaspora are joining the protest in Tirana, while demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has described today's protest in Tirana as the culminating moment of the civic and youth movement against the government.
During a conversation on social media with his followers, Berisha said that the last week has marked the largest youth and civic protests in the country, emphasizing that the rally has continued for 20 days without interruption.
According to him, the protest is being joined by democrats, supporters of the Democratic Party, citizens without a party, as well as Albanians from the diaspora.
"The Albanian diaspora has invaded its own country," Berisha said, claiming that roads, airports and ferries are bringing tens of thousands of Albanians to Tirana.
Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of ignoring the protest's demands and trying to divert attention by attacking bloggers, social media and online critics.
He demanded the fulfillment of the five protest demands, which he described as demands of a nationwide, non-partisan, youth and civic movement.
In his statement, Berisha also referred to developments in the European Parliament, saying that the AFET report included an amendment on Zvërnec, which calls for a moratorium on further decisions in the protected area.
The leader of the Democratic Party said that these developments show that the protest has received international resonance and that, according to him, "the last day of this regime is approaching."
