Morocco is the first quarterfinalist of this World Cup, after convincingly defeating Canada with a score of 3-0 in the match held at Houston's "NRG Stadium".
The Canadians started the match better and created the first dangerous opportunity in the 10th minute, when Tanitolua Oluaseji was stopped by a decisive save from goalkeeper Bono.
In the 22nd minute, Morocco faced a heavy blow as Ismael Saibari was forced off the field due to an injury.
The first half was characterized by many strong tackles and tension on the field. In the 40th minute, after a clash between Ashraf Hakimi and Rishi Lariea, both players were punished with yellow cards. In total, the referee awarded six yellow cards during the first 45 minutes, while the teams went into the break with the score 0-0.
Morocco came back much more aggressively in the second half and opened the scoring in the 50th minute. Azedin Ounahi scored a beautiful goal with his right foot from inside the area, finishing off Ashraf Hakimi's assist after a free kick.
Canada had a chance to equalize in the 76th minute, but Jonathan David's free kick posed no threat to the Moroccan goal.
Ten minutes from time, Morocco struck again. Ounahi completed his double in the 82nd minute, finishing off a quick counterattack after a pass from Brahim Diaz.
In the 85th minute, Sofian Rahimi came close to scoring a third goal, but his header was blocked by the crossbar. The Moroccan striker found the net in stoppage time, when he capitalised on another assist from Brahim Diaz to seal the 3-0 victory.
With this triumph, Morocco secures passage to the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the match between Paraguay and France.
