The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted after calls in the squares and streets from protesters for his and Prime Minister Edi Rama's imprisonment.
The slogan "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison" is among the main refrains of the protest that has been raging in Tirana for 20 days.
During a conversation with followers on social media, Berisha said that those calling for his imprisonment are 'the opposition's opposition'.
However, Berisha said he is not concerned by the chorus of calls, while adding that the DP will support the protest and the citizens who demand the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"Those who call are the opposition of the opposition. This helps Edi Rama because it compares the incomparable, but this has never prevented me from supporting the protest with all my potential," said Berisha.
Berisha also commented on Rama's stances towards the protests held for more than two weeks in Tirana.
"I comment on these positions as fabrications, as a sick fantasy, as blindness by Edi Rama's government. I want to emphasize here that the Zvërnec file is ultimately Edi Rama's direct responsibility for the total lack of transparency and the violation of domestic and international laws article by article. Edi Rama is trying to hide, but as far as I understand, he has absolutely deceived the company and the companies because in violation of all legal conditions, he has issued the development permit, for the sake of the truth, what he is hiding, he has also issued the construction permit in January of this year. And he has issued the construction permit for three blocks. And the company has requested the cancellation of the construction permits with a notary. Edi Rama is hiding all of this.
Edi Rama is now trying to put things into law, but he is deceiving. I have said and I say again that Albania, as a country negotiating with the EU for full integration into the EU, is legally obliged to take every step it takes towards protected areas, "protected landscapes, untouched natural reserves, national parks, is obliged to strictly respect the European law Natura 2000 and the EU directive on habitats and birds that are from 2006-2008," said Berisha.
