Pedagogue Gert Metani delivered a strong speech to protesters at the Prime Minister's Office, denouncing the degradation of the education system, the police, and the lack of spaces for children.
At the beginning of his speech, he praised the resistance of citizens as the only path to change and raised the alarm about the situation in educational and law enforcement institutions.
"You are free people of an enslaved people! Only from you can salvation come and from anyone who protests! Your contribution will free Albania from this corrupt caste! You know that in Albania the police debunk conspiracies, universities sell diplomas and issue mines by the hour! They do not do any study on the quotas that issue diplomas! In Albania there is no city for students, they do not support scientific research and there are professors who work more than 2 jobs because they do not have dignity with the salary they receive!" he said.
Metani further focused on life as a parent and the lack of public infrastructure for the younger generation, using the capital as an example.
"If you're asking who I am, I'm one of you, a number here in the square and I'll be there until the last day! I'm the father of a 5-year-old boy and I'm lucky enough to take him to the puppet theater, which is the only one in Albania! How are the other children growing up? There's only one public swimming pool in Albania! All the children who aren't there won't be able to enjoy their holidays there!" the teacher denounced.
Following his speech, he explained the reasons why he left the elite structures of the State Police and how his professional life currently functions.
"In 2013, I started the police academy. 10 thousand people applied at that time. You understand the great hope they had and after the start, thousands abandoned it because they understood the real approach of this government. I worked in the RENEA forces and when it came time, I resigned due to mediocrity and illiterate leaders! I contribute as a lecturer at two universities and do other jobs to ensure a dignified future!", he declared.
In closing, Metani listed the main reasons why every citizen should join this revolt in front of the government headquarters.
"Anyone who asks why they are protesting, they are protesting about the criminalized lists of officials who do not deserve to be deputies and mayors, they are protesting about the cannabisization of the country, about the constant mockery that every official makes with public funds! I am just a number, I am with you until the end!", he concluded.
