Tehran announces retaliation after US attacks, while the Iranian Foreign Minister warns that no strike will go unanswered.

Iran has launched missiles and drones towards US targets in the region, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in the early hours of Wednesday, in a new escalation of tensions with the United States.

The development comes after Washington carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets for the downing of an Apache military helicopter.

Meanwhile, explosions were heard in the coastal city of Sirik, in Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported several explosions in the area, while local authorities said they were verifying the nature of the incidents.

According to CNN, the first US strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems and radars near the Strait of Hormuz. The operation began at night local Iranian time.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that Tehran will not leave any American attack unanswered.

" Despite the losses on the battlefield, the US decided to test our resolve. Our armed forces will not leave any attack or threat unanswered ," he wrote on the X platform.

Araghchi also called on US forces to leave the region.

" Leave our region if you want to be safe ," he warned.

The clash comes after US strikes were carried out in response to the downing of an Apache helicopter by Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz, an incident that has raised fears of a wider conflict in the region.
