Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a reduction in tensions in the Middle East after an exchange of air strikes between Israel and Iran, warning that escalating the conflict could jeopardize efforts for a lasting peace deal.
In a reaction published on the X platform, Sharif stressed that recent developments show how fragile the previously reached ceasefire remains and how severe the consequences of a return to violence could be.
"The recent escalation of violence in the Middle East is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with a fragile ceasefire and the unbearable consequences it can bring," the Pakistani prime minister wrote.
Pakistan has played an active diplomatic role in communication between the United States and Iran, being considered one of the main mediators in achieving the temporary ceasefire in April.
Referring to the ongoing negotiations to turn the ceasefire into a long-term peace agreement, Sharif expressed optimism that the parties are close to a solution.
"As we work diligently and with great effort, together with our brothers and partners, to find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict, and especially as the ultimate objective is close to being achieved, we sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance ," he declared.
Sharif added that diplomacy remains the best option for resolving the crisis, emphasizing that there are still real opportunities for success through dialogue and not through military escalation.
