Two people have been arrested by police in Finiq after they started a fire to burn grass, but it got out of control and burned about 450 m² of vegetation and fruit trees.
According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Pranvera Gjergkis and Idajet Roshi. The incident occurred the day before at around 12:00, in the village of Leshnicë e Poshtme.
"As a result of the investigations conducted with the aim of identifying and bringing to criminal responsibility the perpetrators of intentional or negligent arson, the services of the Saranda Police Commissariat arrested in flagrante delicto citizens PG, 55 years old, resident of Saranda, and IR, 53 years old, resident of Finiq.
These citizens, on 05.07.2025, at around 12:00, in the village of Leshnicë e Poshtme, Finiq Municipality, are suspected of having intentionally set fire to a land area and as a result, around 450 m² of vegetation and various fruit trees were burned. The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Saranda, for the criminal offense of "Destruction of property by fire", committed in collaboration", the police announced today.
