Shkodra Police have destroyed over 40,000 cannabis plants as part of the extensive anti-drug operation codenamed "Coordinates", which has been ongoing for several weeks in the most problematic areas of the district.
According to the police, more specifically in Kastrat and Shkrel, in the Malësia e Madhe area, 22,422 cannabis plants were discovered, while in Temal and Shllak in Vau i Dejës, 2,409 plants were destroyed.
In the territory of the administrative units of Shala, Pult and Shosh, the services found and destroyed 15,790 plants. None of the growers were arrested, but during the investigation, 8 elders from the villages of Pecaj, Ura e Shtrenjtë, Ndrejaj, Nicaj, Molle, Bzhetë, Ducaj and Lohe e Sipërme and 2 environmental guards were taken into custody.
They are suspected of allowing or failing to report the cultivation of narcotic plants in the areas they cover. Law enforcement has also been supported by drones and aerial reconnaissance technology, while in the latest operation, a helicopter was used due to the difficult terrain.
"Following the police operation codenamed "Coordinates", the structures of the Shkodra Local Police Directorate and the police stations under its jurisdiction have intensified controls throughout the territory of the district, with the aim of cracking down on cases of cultivation of narcotic plants.
In the territory of the administrative units of Shala, Pult and Shosh, the services of the Shkodra Police Commissariat found and destroyed 15,790 suspected Cannabis Sativa plants.
Following the actions, criminal proceedings were initiated for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office":
DV, head of the village of Pecaj
RM, mayor of the village of Ura e Shtrenjte
NV, head of the village of Ndrejaj
LM, mayor of Nicaj village
Gj. K., mayor of the village of Molle
LA, environmental guards near protected areas

In the territory of the administrative units of Temal and Shllak, the services of the Vau i Dejës Police Commissariat destroyed 2,409 suspected narcotic Cannabis Sativa plants.
"Work continues to identify, capture and hold criminally liable the perpetrators of illegal cultivation," the police announced.
