Ylli and Pjerin Brahimaj, father and son, arrested the day before by Tirana's Anti-Trafficking Unit, had created a secret room in their apartment to set up an entire laboratory for the production of passports, identity cards, patents, and even ownership certificates, all of which were fake.
To enter the secret production room in the apartment they had in the Tufina area, on "Myslym Keta" street in the capital, they built a sophisticated mechanism to open the door. During the search of the apartment, the police, who were unaware of the mechanism, broke open the entrance door, incorporated into the wardrobe.
Then the intelligent system used to enter and exit the laboratory was discovered. Next to the door was a normal light switch and a socket. To open the door, a simple cell phone charger had to be plugged into the socket and the switch had to be pressed, and the secret door would open.
This mechanism allowed the Brahimajs to work in secret without anyone knowing. Ylli Brahimaj did this activity while he was under "house arrest" by SPAK, for the same criminal offenses.
Police sources say that the group's laboratory has been discovered for the first time, thus completing the SPAK criminal proceedings with additional evidence. The Anti-Trafficking Unit also took into custody a 62-year-old man who, not far from the house where the laboratory was set up, had a graphics studio, where father and son modified photos and forms to forge them.
Most of the fake documents found were Greek, Italian and American, including a quantity of money, as well as counterfeit products. During the search of the apartment, law enforcement officers seized suspected forged documents and equipment used to carry out this criminal activity. According to the investigation, a fake passport with foreign citizenship was sold for 15 thousand to 20 thousand euros. These documents were then used for illegal crossings to European Union countries or even the United States of America.
Brahimaj continued his criminal activity even though he was under house arrest for the same criminal offenses. Just a month ago, on June 5, the file of Brahimaj's group was sent to trial by SPAK with 37 defendants. Brahimi and other members of the group are accused of migrant trafficking and during the years 2022-2024 they enabled the illegal passage of Albanians by land, air and sea to the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada, while the action to crack down on this group was taken in June 2024.
