A strong storm with intense hail has hit the southeast of the country, causing significant damage to agriculture. The area of Kamnik in the Municipality of Kolonjë was the hardest hit, where the hail, which lasted about 15 minutes, severely damaged vineyards.
The rain was so heavy that within minutes the area was covered in hail, creating the appearance of a winter landscape. The vineyards, which constitute one of the main sources of income for the villagers, have suffered extensive damage, while farmers fear that a significant part of this year's production has been destroyed.
Following the situation created, a working group from the Municipality of Kolonjë is expected to go to the field to identify the damage and prepare the relevant report.
Farmers say this is not the first time they have faced such a situation. According to them, for the sixth consecutive year, hail has hit agricultural crops in the areas of Kolonja, Devolli, Korça and Maliqi, causing them huge economic losses.
They state that, although the damages have been recorded every year and the documentation has been submitted to the responsible institutions, to date they have not received any compensation, requesting concrete interventions to support the affected farmers.
