Qatar has announced that technical contacts between the United States and Iran are continuing, although no high-level meeting between representatives of the two countries is planned.
The statement was made by Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari, who explained that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are in Doha for consultations with Qatari authorities and mediators on a number of regional issues, including talks related to Iran and Lebanon.
According to Qatari authorities, they will not hold meetings with Iranian officials. Al-Ansari stressed that, although political negotiations are suspended, communication at the technical level between the US and Iran continues through intermediaries.
"Currently there are no high-level meetings between the Iranian and American sides according to the approved negotiation mechanism," al-Ansari said during a press conference.
According to him, technical contacts have continued since the previous rounds held in Switzerland, both directly and indirectly, with mediators who are working to keep the negotiation process alive in Doha and other places.
"The Iranian and American technical delegations are still in session. Meetings are taking place in different formats with the participation of mediators to ensure the continuity of the process," said the spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
Qatari authorities have not given a deadline for when political meetings between Washington and Tehran might resume, while the negotiation process continues to rely on technical contacts and the role of mediators.
