
A 34-year-old resident of Kicevo, North Macedonia, was arrested while entering Albania, while an international arrest warrant had been issued against him, as he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The arrested person is Alija Arslan, who has been convicted by Swiss authorities for international drug trafficking.
"A citizen declared internationally wanted, sentenced to 20 years in prison for international drug trafficking, was arrested at the entrance to Albania.
Following increased controls to prevent and combat illegality, as well as to apprehend citizens wanted nationally and internationally, the Border Police services at the Qafë Thanë Border Crossing Point stopped and arrested at the entrance to Albanian territory the citizen:
Alija Arslan, 34 years old, resident of Kicevo, North Macedonia.
From the verifications carried out in cooperation with Interpol Tirana, it resulted that this citizen was internationally wanted by Interpol Bern/Switzerland, pursuant to an order issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Aargau.
The 34-year-old has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for criminal offenses related to international drug trafficking, as provided for by Article 19 of the Act on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances of the Swiss Criminal Code.
"Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with Interpol Bern/Switzerland, continues actions for his extradition to Switzerland," the Police statement said.
