The names of three arrested Albanians and one wanted, among 14 members of an international cocaine trafficking group discovered in Greece, have been revealed.

On Thursday morning, in Pikermi, Athens, an operation by the Greek special forces EKAM led to the discovery of a laboratory producing cocaine from animal skins.

Police conducted searches in a warehouse and an apartment. In the warehouse, an old nursery, a laboratory was set up where cocaine was broken down, which was soaked in raw hides with chemicals. Some of the suspects were caught sleeping.

The import of the hides from Bolivia to Greece, through legal procedures, took place last April. Then, the pallets of animal skins were transferred to the warehouse that the cartel had rented in Pikermi. There, approximately 300 kilograms of chemical solvents used to extract cocaine were found, from the salts with which the dried raw cow hides had been soaked.

“This is a particularly complex process, with important technical specifications, which requires specialized knowledge of chemical processes, which reinforces the appreciation for the high organization and specialization of the team,” said DAOE director Fotis Ntuitsis.

The illegal laboratory was found to contain approximately 100 kilograms of cocaine mixed with salts, which had been extracted from 200 hides. From the remaining 1,500 hides found on the pallets, the amount the group would have produced, after separation from the salts, is estimated to have been approximately 700 kilograms.

"The skins were imported into our country through a wholesale company for leather goods and travel goods, which they had established themselves, and were transported by commercial vehicles to a location where they had installed a special chemical laboratory," said Greek police spokeswoman Constantia Dimoglidou.

11 people were arrested by police in the operation: 6 Greeks, 3 Albanians, 1 Colombian and 1 Bolivian.

The 3 arrested Albanian citizens have been identified as: Robert Muci, 41 years old, from Shushica, Vlorë; Skënder Kallashi, 50 years old, from Novosela, Vlorë; Ledvis Hoxha, 27 years old, from Kutallia, Dimal.
