A small stamp in size, but with a big message for history: that alliances built on freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and mutual respect are the ones that withstand time and give meaning to the processes of statehood consolidation and the future of nations.
The issuance of the postage stamp dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America constitutes an event of special state, historical and diplomatic importance for the Republic of North Macedonia. This is not simply the release of a new philatelic value, but a conscious institutional act, through which our country honors one of the most important events in modern history and at the same time reaffirms its strategic partnership with the United States of America.
The special institutional importance of this project is evidenced by the fact that this commemorative stamp was realized at the proposal of the Center for Spiritual and Cultural Heritage and thanks to the extraordinary commitment of the Director General of the Post of North Macedonia, Mr. Orhan Kurtishi, who enabled its issuance in record time. This is an example of how state institutions, through culture and historical memory, can build new bridges of understanding and friendship between nations.
Throughout the history of international relations, postage stamps have been more than just a means of communication. They are documents of their time, ambassadors of collective memory and bearers of political and cultural messages of states. Through philately, each country chooses which events, personalities and values it wants to convey to future generations. For this reason, the issuance of this stamp should be seen as part of the diplomacy of memory and as a symbolic gesture of the lasting friendship between our two countries.
Two hundred and fifty years ago, America's founding fathers created not only a new state, but also a new political doctrine that would transform modern history: that freedom, sovereignty, and the right of peoples to self-government are the foundations upon which free states are built. This political idea, born on July 4, 1776, would inspire generations of people and have a powerful influence on the creation of a new international order.
Në fillim të shekullit XX, Presidenti amerikan Woodrow Wilson e shndërroi këtë ideal në një doktrinë universale. Pas Luftës së Parë Botërore, ai shpalli parimin e së drejtës së kombeve për vetëvendosje, duke u dhënë popujve të vegjël legjitimitetin moral dhe politik për të krijuar shtetet e tyre dhe për t’iu bashkuar bashkësisë së kombeve të lira. Në këtë kuptim, edhe shtetësia e sotme e Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut mund të shihet si pjesë e trashëgimisë së këtij vizioni historik, i cili ndryshoi përgjithmonë hartën politike të Evropës dhe vendosi parime të reja në marrëdhëniet ndërkombëtare.
Prandaj, emetimi i kësaj pulle përkujtimore bart një simbolikë të shumëfishtë. Ai është një nderim për jubileun e madh amerikan, por njëkohësisht edhe një konfirmim i përkushtimit të Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut ndaj idealeve që mishërojnë Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës: lirisë, demokracisë, shtetit të së drejtës dhe respektimit të sovranitetit të shteteve.
Kjo pullë është gjithashtu një dëshmi e konsolidimit institucional të aleancës strategjike ndërmjet Shteteve të Bashkuara të Amerikës dhe Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut. Marrëdhëniet ndërmjet dy vendeve tona nuk janë rezultat i rrethanave të përkohshme politike, por fryt i një partneriteti të ndërtuar mbi vlera të përbashkëta dhe një vizion të përbashkët për paqen, sigurinë dhe stabilitetin rajonal. Mbështetja amerikane për proceset demokratike dhe integrimin euroatlantik të vendit tonë ka qenë dhe mbetet një nga shtyllat më të rëndësishme të konsolidimit të shtetësisë dhe të zhvillimit institucional të Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut.
Në këtë frymë duhet parë edhe përpjekja për krijimin e një binjakëzimi ndërmjet qytetit të Staunton, vendlindjes së Presidentit Wilson, dhe Shkupi, qytetit të lindjes së Mother Teresa. Po ashtu, salla që mban emrin e Presidentit Wilson dhe busti i tij para Komunës së Çairit përfaqësojnë shenja konkrete të një kujtese institucionale, e cila i jep një dimension të përhershëm dhe një thellësi historike miqësisë ndërmjet dy vendeve tona.
Emetimi i kësaj pulle postare përcjell një mesazh të qartë në një periudhë sfidash të reja gjeopolitike, në një kohë kur rendi ndërkombëtar po përballet me pasiguri dhe tensione të shumta: Republika e Maqedonisë së Veriut e sheh të ardhmen e saj në aleancë me botën demokratike, me NATO-n, me Unionin Europian dhe me Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës si partnerin e saj më të rëndësishëm strategjik.
Prandaj, kjo pullë postare është shumë më tepër sesa një objekt filatelik. Ajo është një dokument i kohës sonë, një shprehje e mirënjohjes historike dhe një simbol i një miqësie që është bërë pjesë e identitetit ndërkombëtar të Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut.
