A 44-year-old man has been pulled alive after being trapped for eight days under the rubble of a building that collapsed after twin earthquakes hit Venezuela.
Emergency crews managed to rescue Hernán Gil, who was buried under about 140 tons of rubble. According to authorities, he was pulled alive more than 100 hours after search and rescue teams first located him.
Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, visited Gil in the hospital on Thursday, calling his rescue a "living miracle."
Meanwhile, the death toll from the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 continues to mount. As of Thursday evening, authorities have confirmed 2,595 deaths, while thousands of people are still missing.
Search and rescue operations continue in the most affected areas, while emergency teams are trying to find other survivors under the rubble.
