The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled on July 2 that the distribution of Russia Today content will no longer be permitted in any form in EU member states.
The decision also includes the publication of materials on websites, regardless of whether they are offered free of charge or on a non-profit basis.
This means that the ban applies both to cases where content is distributed for financial gain, and when it is published on a website or social networks without any economic benefit.
According to the decision, the European Union considers "Russia Today" part of the Russian propaganda mechanism and aims to prevent the dissemination of its materials in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The issue was also supported by concrete cases registered in Germany, where three people were prosecuted for publishing "Russia Today Germany" videos online.
According to the Court, this measure is necessary to protect public order and security of the European Union, as well as to curb the spread of Russian propaganda.
