Thanos Dokos was tricked into believing he was talking to Ukrainian officials. The Greek government says no classified information was compromised, while the opposition is calling for his resignation.
Greece's National Security Advisor, Thanos Dokos, has fallen prey to a hoax by two Russian comedians known for targeting political figures, who released footage of a video call where he believed he was communicating with Ukrainian officials.
According to the Greek government, no confidential or classified information was disclosed during the conversation, although authorities announced that they would strengthen communications security measures to deal with similar hybrid attacks.
In the video, Dokos discusses a Ukrainian military naval drone that washed ashore on the island of Lefkada, relations between Greece and Turkey, as well as political developments in the country, anticipating the holding of general elections in the coming months.
The two Russian pranksters have previously fooled other international leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and former British Defense Minister Ben Wallace.
The Greek government stated that the perpetrators used highly advanced artificial intelligence technology, while the main opposition demanded Dokos' resignation, describing it as the "only option" after the video was released.
