A dangerous situation was averted this evening on the promenade of the coastal city of Saranda, thanks to the intervention of law enforcement.
A foreign national, identified as of Italian origin, was seen moving with a knife in his hand among the many citizens on the boulevard.
The inappropriate appearance and presence of a cold weapon in a crowded area created concern and panic among passersby.
Police forces intervened, neutralizing the foreigner without injury or causing further incidents.
The person has been taken to the Saranda Police Station, where he is being questioned and efforts are underway to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident. So far, there are no reports of injuries.
The suspect has been identified as Th. M., 32, from Perugia, Italy, who was on vacation in Saranda. Official police sources indicate that he was intoxicated and is suspected of having mental health problems.
