The negotiations taking place in Doha, Qatar, between American and Iranian mediators and officials aim to clarify and supplement the initial agreement between the parties, with the aim of avoiding different interpretations in the future.
According to Rashid al-Mohanadi, vice president of the Center for International Policy Research, the initial memorandum of understanding is a document of only two pages, which has created room for ambiguity in its interpretation.
He told Al Jazeera that these uncertainties were reflected last weekend, when Iran attacked merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, following Oman's cooperation with the International Maritime Organization to create a safe maritime corridor.
According to al-Mohanadi, the talks in Doha are not limited to security issues, but also aim to advance other areas of the US-Iran deal. He mentioned that issues on the table are regional security, the Iranian nuclear program, navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as economic development, sanctions relief, and asset management.
Meanwhile, Lebanon has taken on a key role in United States efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and advance dialogue with Iran.
Following the trilateral agreement signed by Israel, Lebanon and the US, the focus has shifted to implementing the commitments made by each side. Reaching the agreement required five rounds of negotiations, with the most contentious issues being the border, Hezbollah disarmament and Israel's demand for security guarantees.
Israel is seeking guarantees that Hezbollah will not reestablish its military presence along the border with Lebanon. In return, Washington aims to ensure the functioning of the so-called "pilot zones", guarantee Israel's compliance with its commitments and prevent further escalation of the situation.
According to analysis published by Al Jazeera, both the talks between the US and Iran, and the agreement between Israel and Lebanon, will depend on the practical implementation of commitments and the ability of the parties to respect them on the ground.
