The European Union has approved a package of projects and grants worth a total of around 206 million euros for Kosovo, announced acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

According to him, the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) Committee has approved the projects proposed by Kosovo under the IPA 2026 and IPA 2027 programmes, worth 180.5 million euros. Three grants from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) have also been approved, worth 25.9 million euros.

However, the funds cannot be disbursed immediately. They must first receive formal approval from the European Commission, and then the financing agreement must be signed and ratified by the Kosovo Assembly.

In his Facebook post, Kurti emphasized that IPA funds will support the country's key development sectors, including environment and climate, energy, border management and migration, competitiveness, education and employment, good governance, approximation with the European Union, as well as the rule of law.

He announced that approximately half of the approved amount will be dedicated to infrastructure investments, while most of the projects will be implemented in cooperation with international development partners and with co-financing from Kosovo institutions.

"About half of the funds will go to infrastructure investments. Most of the projects will be implemented in combination with other development partners and with co-financing from our institutions ," Kurti said.

As for the WBIF grants, they will finance investments in the rehabilitation of the Ibër-Lepenc hydrosystem, the Qafë e Duhlës–Banulë road segment, and the construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Podujeva, the latter in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Kosovo has been a beneficiary of Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance funds since 2007. According to official data, by the end of 2022 the country had benefited from a total of 1.21 billion euros through the IPA I and IPA II programs.
