United States President Donald Trump stated that Iran has recently contacted the US and expressed a desire to reach an agreement.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his return from the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said: "They called a little while ago. They really want to make a deal."
The US president's comments come after the US military struck more than 90 targets in Iran last night. Asked about the attacks, Trump replied: "It was indeed retaliation."
On his way back to the US, Trump made a brief stop in the United Kingdom, where he changed planes at RAF Mildenhall air base in Suffolk, before continuing his journey on the new Air Force One that had been given to him by Qatar.
The US president denied that the ban was related to security issues. Asked by reporters if he was aware of credible threats to the plane, he said: "I have a threat all the time. I'm number one on their list."
