American professor, Edward P. Joseph, has assessed that the responsibility for resolving the political impasse in Kosovo lies with all political leaders, emphasizing that citizens should punish them if they fail to find consensus.
Joseph stated that the main responsibility for resolving the situation lies with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, due to the majority he controls in the Assembly, but added that the responsibility does not fall solely on him.
"Absolutely. They should do this. And if they don't, I will say this: If the political leaders and again, I'm speaking in the plural, I'm not just saying that Prime Minister Kurti has responsibility. He has the main responsibility because he controls the majority of votes in parliament, and this is a parliamentary decision, but they all hold responsibility. And the voters, I will say this, the voters should punish all the political leaders who don't find a consensus, because this is harming the country ," Joseph said in an interview with Ekonomia Online.
The American professor also spoke about relations between Kosovo and the United States of America, describing the suspension of the strategic dialogue as a negative development and emphasizing that the Kosovo Government has missed an important opportunity in relation to the Serbian community.
"Yes, there are differences. Of course, it was very bad to see the United States suspend the strategic dialogue. And this is a reinforcement of the message that I gave, which is to recognize all citizens in Kosovo, all communities, including the Serbian community, and the way the government treats them. And the government has a tremendous opportunity and has had an opportunity that it has not used to say to the Kosovo Serb community: Your capital is in Pristina. Pristina takes care of you. Belgrade does not take care of you. And they have missed this opportunity," Joseph said.
