Since the middle of this week, a group of delegates of the Assembly of the Democratic League of Kosovo has begun collecting signatures to call an extraordinary meeting, in which the aim is to put on the agenda the request for the dismissal of the chairman Lumir Abdixhiku.
According to media in Kosovo, the signatures of one-third of the Assembly delegates are needed to call the meeting, and then the request for the dismissal of the speaker can be put to a vote. Sources for "Koha" have announced that so far 118 of the necessary signatures out of a total of 355 delegates have not been obtained.
The initiative follows the dissatisfaction expressed after the June 7 elections. Last week, the LDK branch in Peja, the one in Lipjan and the Branch II in Pristina called for Abdixhiku's resignation, justifying the request with the poor election result. This call was also joined by the elected LDK MP, Hykmete Bajrami.
Abdixhiku, on the other hand, demanded the resignation of the head of the LDK branch in Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, and the head of the branch in Lipjan, Imri Ahmeti, for the poor results in these branches. He then declared that the LDK Assembly will convene in 2027, in a regular session.
After the December 28 elections, Abdixhiku had offered to resign from the post of party leader, but on January 31, the LDK Assembly rejected that request.
