Albion Nikolli, one of the protesters arrested during the protest held on July 2 in front of the Parliament, was released this Saturday after four days in police custody.
After his release, he participated in the protest held in the evening in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where he thanked citizens for the support they had given him during the days he and other protesters were in detention. In his speech, Nikolli stated that the protesters are not against the constitutional order, but are demanding, according to him, the return of democracy and the rule of law.
"I want to say that the protesters, those guys, are not hooligans. They are not against the law and constitutional order; they are against autocracy. They are for democracy, for the rule of law, to return Albania to democratic tracks."
They want Albania not to be captured by the mafia, not to be sold to local oligarchs. They are not heroes. You are heroes who have come every day to protest. Thank you for coming to support us. You have given us extraordinary energy. Heroes are those who protest, those who stand for rights in everyday life. ", declared Nikolli.
He then made another claim regarding the behavior of State Police officers while he was at the police station, saying that some of them had expressed support for the protesters.
"The police have told us all the time, even when they arrested us and at the police station, that they are with us. They are also oppressed by the system. They are not paid for their overtime and their uniform tenders are stolen," he said.
Albion Nikolli's claims regarding the statements of State Police employees have not been confirmed by the authorities.
