The European Union has stressed that Kosovo needs fully functional institutions to accelerate the implementation of reforms and advance in the European integration process. This was one of the main messages of the 7th meeting of the Stabilization and Association Committee between Kosovo and the European Union, held in Pristina, where political and economic developments and the implementation of obligations stemming from the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) were reviewed.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday, the meeting was opened by Kosovo's chief negotiator with the EU, Jeton Zulfaj, and the Director for the Western Balkans at the European Commission, Valentina Superti, and was co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Prime Minister's Office, Arben Krasniqi, and the Head of the Kosovo Unit at the Directorate General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood, Jiri Plecity.
The EU, as the announcement states, assessed the progress achieved in several areas, including competitiveness, social and employment policies, digital transformation, taxation, economic and monetary policies, education, culture and customs.
"However, she called for the acceleration of pending reforms, especially in public administration, the rule of law, freedom of expression and the protection of fundamental rights, including the rights of non-majority communities ," the statement said, KOHA reports.
The EU also underlined that Kosovo's European future requires a commitment from the entire society, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between political parties, consultation with civil society, and the involvement of local government in advancing the European agenda.
The Government of Kosovo reconfirmed its commitment to implementing the reforms and obligations arising from the SAA, as well as to utilizing the opportunities offered by the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans to accelerate the country's socio-economic development.
"At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue cooperation in implementing reforms and advancing Kosovo's European aspirations. The European Union recalled that it remains Kosovo's largest and most reliable partner, emphasizing that since 1999 it has invested over 3.7 billion euros in the country and will continue to support Kosovo on its path towards European integration ," the announcement concludes.
